...The name comes from the loud and varied calls they make using a large resonating pouch under their lower jaw. Five species are known: the red-handed howler A. seniculus (illustration), the red-handed howler A. belzebul , the black howler A. caraya , the brown howler A. fusca , and the mantled howler A. villosa . They are characterized by a specialized hyoid bone and an enlarged lower jaw that contains the resonating pouch.
