Ethylenediamine - Ethylenediamine

An aliphatic amine. Also known as 1,2-diaminoethane. A colorless liquid with an ammonia odor.

It is synthesized from 1,2-dichloroethane and ammonia. It has strong basicity. It is easily soluble in water and alcohol, but insoluble in benzene and ether. It gives ethylene oxide when exposed to nitrous acid. It reacts with carbon dioxide and carbon disulfide to produce ethyleneurea (2-imidazolidinone) and ethylenethiourea (2-imidazolidinethione), respectively. It is a representative chelating reagent, and as a bidentate ligand (symbol for ligand is en), it coordinates with almost all metals to form complex salts. It is used as an analytical reagent for the quantitative analysis of various metal ions, and is also used as a raw material for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals.

脂肪族アミンの一つ。1,2-ジアミノエタンともいう。アンモニア臭をもつ無色の液体。

　1,2-ジクロロエタンとアンモニアから合成される。強い塩基性をもつ。水、アルコールに易溶、ベンゼン、エーテルに不溶。亜硝酸の作用でエチレンオキシドを与える。二酸化炭素、二硫化炭素と反応して、それぞれエチレン尿素（2-イミダゾリジノン）、エチレンチオ尿素（2-イミダゾリジンチオン）を生成する。代表的なキレート試薬であり、二座配位子（配位子としての記号はen）として、ほとんどすべての金属に配位して錯塩をつくる。分析試薬として、各種金属イオンの定量分析に用いられるほか、医薬品の合成原料ともなる。
