A scholar of Japanese literature. Born in Kobe City. Graduated from the Department of Japanese Literature at Tokyo Imperial University in 1927 (Showa 2). From 1957 he published research on Japanese classical literature based on Marxism and played an active role as a central figure in the "history and society" school. In 1959 he became a professor at Hosei University. He published works such as "The Theory of Japanese Literature" (1937) and was arrested in 1944 for opposing militaristic ideology. After the war, he joined the Japanese Communist Party. In 1946 he organized the Japanese Literature Association and was later recommended as its first chairman, and was invited to China, the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, and other countries. In 1966 (Showa 41), he became a professor at Wako University. After his death, "Kondo Tadayoshi's Theory of Japanese Literature" was published in three volumes (1977).
