In the Mesolithic period in Europe, hoes made from deer antlers were used for digging soil and quarrying stones. Stone hoes were found in the painted pottery culture of Western Asia, the Yangshao culture of China, and the plain pottery culture of Korea, and what are called chipped stone axes from the Jomon period in Japan were probably used for collecting roots and roots and digging holes. In some areas of the Yayoi period, there were both chipped and ground stone hoes.
