Eskilstuna (English spelling)
A city in Södermanland County in southeastern Sweden. It is located 180 km west of Stockholm. Around the 12th century, it was a regional trading center, but in the 17th and 18th centuries it developed rapidly as a steel-making city, surpassing Sheffield in England. Even today, it is famous as a major center of various industries such as steel rolling, cutlery, hardware, and precision machinery. Population 89,495 (1992 estimate).
