Senryu (Japanese senryu) writer. Formerly known as Ikujiro. Also known by the pseudonyms Sosotei and S.S.T. Born in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Graduated from Okura Commercial School. Studied under Inoue Kenkabo. Published the magazine Senryu Kenkyu. While publishing purely literary senryu such as purely poetic senryu and serial senryu, he also worked to popularize popular senryu through current affairs senryu in newspapers, home senryu in home magazines, senryu selection reviews on radio broadcasts, and senryu appreciation through manga and comedy sketches, nurturing many young poets. Published a collection of haiku called Kodoku Jizo (1963) and more. Received the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
