Founded in Osaka Castle in 1870, this cannon factory took over the main machinery of the Nagasaki Ironworks from the Edo period and renamed itself the Osaka Artillery Arsenal in 1879. It manufactured artillery for the army. In 1906, a labor dispute broke out due to resentment over personnel cuts and wage cuts resulting from production cuts after the Russo-Japanese War, but the strike ended before it could be carried out.
