Macrophages that originate from sources other than blood are cells that belong to the so-called reticuloendothelial system, such as histiocytes in tissues, Kupffer stellate cells in the liver, alveolar macrophages in the lungs, macrophages in lymph nodes and the spleen, and macrophages derived from the pleural and peritoneal epithelium. *Some terms that refer to "acute inflammation" are listed below.
