Sinai (English spelling)

Japanese: シナイ（英語表記）Sinai

A triangular peninsula on the border between the Asian and African continents. It faces the Mediterranean Sea to the north, is bounded by the Gulf of Aqaba to the east, and the Suez Canal and the Gulf of Suez to the west. In Arabic, it is called Sina. Most of the peninsula is desert, and the southern part is a mountainous area of granitic rock centered around Mount Katirina (2,637 m). The population is concentrated in the Mediterranean coastal areas and on the eastern bank of the Suez Canal, while the inland areas and the desert region in the south are inhabited by nomadic tribes such as the Sawariha and the Terabhin.

アジア大陸とアフリカ大陸の境界にある三角形の半島。北は地中海に面し，東はアカバ湾，西はスエズ運河およびスエズ湾に囲まれている。アラビア語ではシーナーSīnā’。半島の大部分は砂漠地帯で，南部はカティリーナKatirīna山(2637m)を中心とする花コウ岩の山地である。人口は地中海沿岸地方やスエズ運河東岸に集中しており，内陸部や南部の砂漠地帯には，サワリハ族やテラビン族といった遊牧民族が住んでいる。
