A typical species that forms reef-building corals, it is widely distributed from the warm currents of Japan to the southern seas. The short branches fuse together and spread out in a plane, forming a flat colony with a diameter of 1 to 2 meters. The upper surface is densely covered with short branches pointing upward, but the lower surface is flat and has no protrusions. The calcareous skeleton is porous and not hard. The polyps are green or brown in color because countless tiny zooxanthellae (zooxanthellae) live symbiotically with them. …
