Wanizuka Mountains - Wanizukasanchi

The southern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, Nichinan Coast, Cape Toi and Mt. Wanizuka (1118m) are included in this mountain range. It is also called Minami Naka Mountains or Nichinan Mountains, and only the eastern part is called Udo Mountains. It is made of Tertiary sandstone and mudstone, and the western part is a late mature mountain range with an elevation of about 1000m, while the eastern part is a mature mountain range with an elevation of about 700m, and runs north to south as a tilted land mass. The western part is the eastern wall of the Miyakonojo Basin, and the northern part is the southern limit of the Miyazaki Plain. Mt. Aoi (563m) and Ushi-no-toge Pass were historically important transportation points between the various regions. Blessed with a warm and rainy climate, Obi cedars are planted over a large area, and subtropical plants are also found along the Nichinan Coast (quasi-national park). Mt. Wanizuka, Mt. Boroishi, Kaeda Valley, and Inohaenotaki Falls are designated as part of Wanitsuka Prefectural Natural Park.

宮崎県南部、日南海岸(にちなんかいがん)、都井岬(といみさき)や鰐塚山（1118メートル）を含む山地。南那珂山地(みなみなかさんち)、日南山地ともよばれ、東部のみ鵜戸山地(うどさんち)とよばれることがある。第三紀の砂岩、泥岩からなり、西部は標高1000メートル前後の晩壮年期山地、東部は標高こそ700メートル前後と低いが壮年期山地で、傾動地塊をなして南北に走る。西部は都城(みやこのじょう)盆地の東壁、北部は宮崎平野の南限をなし、青井(あおい)岳（563メートル）や牛ノ峠(うしのとうげ)は歴史的に各地域間交通の要衝であった。温暖多雨な気候に恵まれて飫肥(おび)杉の造林面積が広く、日南海岸沿岸（国定公園）は亜熱帯植物も分布する。鰐塚山、双石山(ぼろいしやま)、加江田渓谷(かえだけいこく)、猪八重滝(いのはえのたき)は、わにつか県立自然公園に指定されている。
