Reverse fault - Gyakudanso (English spelling)

Japanese: 逆断層 - ぎゃくだんそう（英語表記）reverse fault

A medium to high-angle fault with a fault plane that inclines at 45 degrees or more, in which the upper block (hanging wall) slides upward relative to the lower block (footwall). Faults with a dip of 45 degrees or less are called thrust faults. The fault plane is the boundary, and older strata are in contact with the upper side. In a reverse fault, the component of displacement that causes the hanging wall to rise is greater than the component of displacement that causes it to move laterally. In a thrust fault, on the other hand, the component of displacement that causes it to move laterally is greater.

Japanese:

断層面が45度以上に傾斜した中角から高角の断層で、上側のブロック（上盤(うわばん)）が、下側のブロック（下盤(したばん)）に対して相対的にずり上がる変位をもつ断層。傾斜が45度以下のものは衝上断層(しょうじょうだんそう)とよばれる。断層面を境として、上側に古い地層が接することになる。逆断層は、上盤が上がる変位成分が、側方へ移動する変位成分より大きい。衝上断層では、逆に側方へ移動する変位成分が大きい。
