A literary and ideological magazine published by Kindai Shisosha. It was published from October 1912 (Taisho 1) to September 1914, and from October 1915 to January 1916. During the so-called "Winter Period" following the High Treason Incident, it was published as a base for socialists, with Osugi Sakae as editor and publisher and Arahata Kanson as printer. Written by Sakai Toshihiko (Kaizuka Juroku), Takabatake Motoyuki, Toki Zenmaro (Aika), and others, it introduced the ideas of Max Stirner, Kropotkin, Wedekind, and others, paving the way for a change in the view of humanity that took place from the mid-Taisho period to the Showa period. After it was revived, it launched Miyajima Masukeo, who later became a representative of workers' literature. The essays in the miscellaneous column, literary critiques, and book reviews attempted to open up a new window to the literary world with their outspoken and iconoclastic statements, and became a pioneer of the editorial style of the early Bungeishunju.
