A historian of colonial Mexico. A descendant of the royal family of Texcoco. He completed the seven liberal arts, entered the government and held various local positions, and was also skilled in poetry. Fascinated by the history of his ancestors' land of Texcoco, he researched and deciphered indigenous picture documents (codexes), and wrote "History of the Chichimeca" around 1648. The story begins with the creation of the world and extends to the conquests, and in particular the deeds and poetry of his great-great-grandfather, the poet-king Nezahualcoyotl, were passed down to posterity through his pen. 植民地期メキシコの歴史家。テスココ王家の末裔。自由七科を修め，官界に入って地方官職を歴任，また詩作に長じた。父祖の地テスココの歴史にひかれ，広く原住民絵文書(コデックス)を渉猟･解読し，1648年ころ《チチメカ史》を著す。叙述は世界創世に始まって征服に及び，とりわけ高祖父にあたる詩人王ネサワルコヨトルの事跡と詩作は彼の筆によって後世に伝えられた。【高橋均】
