Wakatake Fuemi

Japanese: 若竹笛躬 - わかたけ・ふえみ

Years of birth: Years of birth and death unknown. A puppeteer and Joruri composer in the Kamigata area in the mid-Edo period. He went by the name Wakatake Tokuro when it came to puppets, and was already a great figure during the Horeki period (1751-64) who was praised as a "master of the school" and an "unrivaled inventor," and was active until around 1766. As a Joruri composer, he was probably a pupil of Naniwa Sanzo, also known as Fueju, and it is thought that the name Fuemu was derived from this. He was one of the joint composers of many plays, including "Kishihime Matsuki Kagami," "Setsu Goppo Tsuji," and "Date Musume Koi Hikako," which were performed at the Toyotakeza and other venues from 1759 to 1799. 江戸中期,上方の人形遣い,浄瑠璃作者。人形の方では若竹藤九郎と名乗り,宝暦期(1751～64)にすでに「当流の達人」「発明無類」と評される大立者で,明和3(1766)年ごろまで活躍した。浄瑠璃の作者としては,たぶん笛十こと難波三蔵の門下で,笛躬の名もそれにちなむかと思われる。宝暦9(1759)年から寛政11(1799)年まで豊竹座などで上演された「岸姫松轡鑑」「摂州合邦辻」「伊達娘恋緋鹿子」ほか多数の作者連名に加わっている。明和5年度には大坂中の芝居三枡他人座の歌舞伎の作者でもあった。<参考文献>入我亭我入『戯財録』(日本思想大系61巻),『義太夫年表/近世篇1』
