A general term for animals in the order Carnivora, suborder Pinnipedia, class Mammalia. They are divided into three families: Otariidae, Phocidae, and Odobenidae. All have fur and molt. Their four fin-like limbs are adapted to life in the water, making them amphibious. They give birth on land or on ice. They give birth to one baby at a time. They feed on a wide range of fish, shellfish, squid, octopus, and other creatures in the water.
