"King's Touch Cure." This was a miracle cure in which the king would cure the sick by touching the affected area of his hands. It is known as an indication of the king's magical powers. The illnesses that were treated were scrofula and similar diseases, and were called "the king's evil." It was most prevalent in England during the Stuart dynasty in the 17th century, and in France during the Louis dynasty in the 18th century. In both cases, it was ritualized, and it is said that Charles II touched 4,000 people every year, and Louis XV touched 2,000 people at his coronation.
