Lopolis - Lopolis (English spelling)

An intrusive rock body that is in harmony with the surrounding strata and curves like a basin with a depression in the center. It is also called a basin-shaped body. The rocks are peridotite and gabbro with trace amounts of acidic rock, and are often crystallized differentiated rock bodies. They may be accompanied by metal deposits such as nickel and chromium. The Sudbury Complex in Canada is well known. Many lopolises are also known to exist in the Republic of South Africa. The main causes are thought to be bending of the lower strata and flexure of the strata due to basement movement.

周辺の地層とは調和的で、中央部がくぼみ盆状に湾曲した貫入岩体。盆状岩体ともいう。岩石は橄欖(かんらん)岩、微量の酸性岩を伴う斑糲(はんれい)岩質のもので、結晶分化岩体であることが多い。ニッケル、クロムなどの金属鉱床を伴うことがある。カナダのサドベリー岩体は著名である。南アフリカ共和国にも多数のロポリスの存在が知られている。下部の地層のたわみ、基盤の運動による地層の撓曲(とうきょく)が主要な成因と考えられる。
