A town in Takaoka County in central Kochi Prefecture. It is located on a small plain that developed in the basin of the Yanase River, a tributary of the Niyodo River. Sake brewing has been active since ancient times. There is a clay tile industry in the west. The town produces pears, strawberries, and tea. The main settlement was a small castle town in the early modern period, and is famous for its cherry blossoms.
