1485‐1567 A Spanish priest. Known as the "pacifier of Peru." He studied in Salamanca and Alcala. In 1546, he was appointed prefect of the Audiencia of Lima, and went to Peru on the mission of suppressing the rebellion of G. Pizarro. In April 1548, he defeated the rebel forces in the Battle of Haquihawana, bringing an end to the civil war in Peru.
