Rhovyl (English spelling)
A fiber made of pure polyvinyl chloride. Trademark of the French company Société Rhovyl. It is dissolved in a mixture of carbon disulfide and acetone and spun into yarn. It is available commercially in sizes from 75 to 1600 denier as a continuous filament yarn with a tensile strength of 3 gf/denier and an elongation at break of 12%, even when wet. It has reasonable chemical resistance and is nonflammable. A disadvantage is that it shrinks at temperatures above 78°C. It is used in filter cloth and nonflammable furniture.
