Roti (English spelling)

Japanese: ローティー（英語表記）roti

A general term for bread made in North India. It includes representative breads such as chapati, nan, and puri, as well as their variations. Of these, chapati is the most widely made and is served on a daily basis in most areas, and is what you get if you just order roti at a restaurant. It is characterized by using unrefined whole wheat flour (ata), which is kneaded well with water (and sometimes ghee), rolled into a ball with a rolling pin without fermentation, and grilled on a hot plate on both sides, resulting in a simple flavor.

北インドで作られるパンの総称。チャパーティーchapati，ナーンnan，プーリーpuriなどの代表的パンや，そのバリエーションを含む。なかでも最も広い地域で日常的に作られるのはチャパーティーで，レストランでローティーとだけ注文すればこれが出てくる。精製してないままの全粒の小麦粉(アーター)を使うのが特色で，水(ときにはギー)を加えてよくこね，無発酵のままめん棒で丸くのし，鉄板で両面を焼いただけの素朴な味である。
