Mount Rokko

Japanese: 六甲山 - ろっこうさん

A mountain made of granite rocks that rises to the north of the eastern part of Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is the highest peak in the Rokko Mountains, with an elevation of 931m. The area west of the summit is flat and has been developed as a resort area. It is connected by cables, ropeways, and driveways, and is home to Japan's oldest golf course, an artificial ski resort, an alpine botanical garden, and a company resort. The Rokko Mountains are a fault mountain range stretching 30km from east to west, and from the west, it is made up of Mt. Hachibuse, Mt. Yokoo, Mt. Takatori, Mt. Kikusui, Mt. Futatabi, Mt. Maya, Mt. Rokko, and Mt. Kabuto. As it is made of granite rocks, it is prone to erosion, so reforestation and erosion control works have been carried out. There are forest parks, rock gardens, and various campsites. From the top of the mountain, there is a superb view of the night view of Kobe city, and most of it belongs to the Setonaikai National Park. The Sanyo Shinkansen Rokko Tunnel and Kobe Tunnel run through the city from east to west, and road tunnels such as the Hokushin Kyuko Railway and Shin-Kobe Tunnel cross it from north to south.

兵庫県神戸市東部の市街地の北にそびえる花コウ岩からなる山。六甲山地の最高峰で，標高931m。山頂の西一帯は平たんで別荘地として開発された。ケーブル，ロープウェー，ドライブウェーが通じ，日本最古のゴルフ場や，人工スキー場，高山植物園，企業の保養所などがある。六甲山地は東西30kmの断層山地で，西から鉢伏山，横尾山，高取山，菊水山，再度(ふたたび)山，摩耶山，六甲山，甲(かぶと)山などが連なる。花コウ岩なので浸食を受けやすく，植林や砂防工事が進められた。森林公園，ロックガーデンや各種のキャンプ場がある。山上からは神戸市街の夜景の展望がすぐれており，大部分が瀬戸内海国立公園に属する。東西に山陽新幹線六甲トンネルや神戸トンネルが縦貫し，南北に北神急行電鉄と新神戸トンネルなどの道路トンネルが横断している。
