It is the main peak of the Daiko Mountain Range, which runs north and south along the border of Nara, Mie, and Wakayama prefectures. It is a plateau-like mountain on the border between Kawakami Village and Kamikitayama Village in Nara Prefecture and Odai Town in Mie Prefecture. The summit is a flat surface of the uplifted quasi-plain remains such as Masakigahara, Ushiishigahara, and Nishi-Odaigahara, and the surrounding area is dominated by the highest peaks, Mt. Hidegatake (1,695 meters), Mt. Mitsukawachi (1,655 meters), and Mt. Kyogamine (1,529 meters). It is the source of the Miyagawa River flowing east, the Yoshinogawa River flowing north, the Kitayama River flowing west, and its tributary, the Nishinogawa River. The upper reaches of the Miyagawa River are home to the scenic Osugi Gorge, covered in primeval forest, and on the southern slope are the cliffs of Daijagura, Seirogura, Sengokudake, Higashinotaki, Nishinotaki, and other scenic spots. The area around the summit is one of Japan's rainiest areas, and a robotic rain gauge station has been installed there. The summit plateau offers a great view, and is covered with thickets of bamboo grass. There is also the Odai Church and a visitor center. The 16-kilometer Odaigahara Driveway (Prefectural Route 40 Odaigahara Park Kawakami Line) leads from Obamine Pass on National Route 169 to the summit. It is part of Yoshino-Kumano National Park.
