It is the highest peak in the Ishizuchi Mountains, which form the backbone of Shikoku. It is 1,982 meters above sea level. It stands on the border between Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture, and Kumakogen Town, Kamiukena County. It is included in Ishizuchi Quasi-National Park. Its summit is Misen, where the Ishizuchi Shrine's Ishizuchi Shrine's Ishizuchi Shrine is located, and Tengu-dake to the southeast, and Tengu-dake is the highest in western Japan. Near the summit, a long, narrow rock wall runs like a corridor from northwest to southeast along the ridgeline, with cliffs on both sides. Tertiary pyroxene andesite that erupted and intruded into the basement of the Sanbagawa metamorphic rock belt formed this ridge, forming nearly vertical columnar joints of about 100 meters. Mt. Ishizuchi appears in the Manyoshu and is recorded in the Nihon Ryōiki and other texts. It has long been famous as an object of mountain worship, and is counted as one of Japan's seven sacred mountains alongside Mt. Fuji and Mt. Ontake. There are two hiking trails: the main approach via Saijo City's Komatsu-cho and Jojusha Shrine, and the back approach from Kumakōgen-cho, and the mountain market held every year from July 1st to 10th attracts many devotees as they climb the mountain. The first snow falls in late October, and frost can be seen in winter. [Kazuo Fukaishi] "Nature and Humanity of the Ishizuchi Mountain Range" (1960, Ehime Shimbun) [References] | | |View of Mt.
