Popular paper

Japanese: popular paper(英語表記)popularpaper
Popular paper

… [Kunitoshi Mizuno]
[Mass Communication]
Britain is a country that is advanced in both quantity and quality of mass media. For example, the news agency Reuters maintains the traditions of the British Empire and still has a huge network that spans the world. In contrast to Japan, the first characteristic is that newspapers, reflecting the historical hierarchical structure, were clearly divided into "quality papers" such as The Times and The Guardian, and "popular papers" and "mass papers" such as The Sun and The Daily Mirror, which avoid serious topics such as politics and economics and difficult debates as much as possible and focus on entertainment information such as crime, sports, and sex. However, since the 1970s, the Daily Mail and the Daily Express have been relaunched as mid-level papers that aim to be somewhere in between, and the current three-tier structure is in place.
