Republic of Tuva (English spelling)
A republic within the Russian Federation. It was an autonomous republic within the former Russian Soviet Republic, but declared sovereignty after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and became a republic in 1993. Its area is 170,500 km2 and its population is 308,600 (1989). Its capital is Kyzyl (population 84,600). It is located in the western part of southern Siberia, bordering the Altai Republic (formerly the Gorno-Altai Autonomous Oblast) to the west, the Republic of Buryatia to the east, and Mongolia to the south. It is a mountainous country with the Western Sayan Mountains running along its northern border and the Tuva Basin stretching across the center.

ロシア連邦内の共和国。旧ソ連邦ロシア共和国内の自治共和国であったが,1991年のソ連崩壊を機に主権宣言を行い,93年共和国となった。面積17万0500km2,人口30万8600(1989)。首都キジルKyzyl(人口8万4600)。南シベリアの西部に位置し,西はアルタイ共和国(旧ゴルノ・アルタイ自治州),東はブリヤート共和国,南はモンゴルに接する。北の国境に沿って西サヤン山脈が走り,中央にトゥバ盆地の広がる山国である。
