A shogunate official in the late Edo period. Saemon-no-jo. His given name was Kagemoto. Kinshiro was his nickname. In his youth he led a dissolute life and associated himself with the town scoundrels, but it is said he repented when he took over the family business. He served as head of the small storehouse, small construction magistrate, construction magistrate, accounting magistrate, and northern magistrate. He worked on Mizuno Tadakuni's Tenpo reforms, but was dismissed due to differences of opinion, and after Mizuno's downfall he became the southern magistrate. He was praised as a great magistrate who was well versed in the state of the world. It is said that he had a tattoo of a snowstorm of cherry blossoms, and in storytelling he is affectionately known as "Toyama no Kin-san." 江戸末期の幕臣。左衛門尉。名は景元。金四郎は通称。青年時代、放蕩生活をし市井無頼の徒と伍したが、家を継ぐにあたり悔悟したという。小納戸頭取・小普請奉行・作事奉行・勘定奉行・北町奉行などを歴任。水野忠邦の天保の改革につとめたが意見が合わず罷免され、水野の失脚後、南町奉行となる。世情に通じ名奉行とうたわれた。俗説では桜吹雪のいれずみがあったといわれ、講談などでは「遠山の金さん」として親しまれている。寛政五~安政二年(一七九三‐一八五五)
