Romanian violinist, composer and conductor. Also known as Enescu. One of the most famous violinists of the first half of the 20th century. After graduating from the Vienna Conservatory at the age of 13, he was active mainly in Paris as a soloist and chamber musician. He gained international fame. As a composer, his early orchestral work "Romanian Rhapsody No. 1" (1901) is widely known, but his later works are particularly important. His works include "Violin Sonata No. 3" (1926) and "Orchestral Suite No. 3" (1937), which exquisitely incorporate the essence of Romanian folk music, and "Oedipus Rex" (1921-1931, premiered in Paris in 1936, based on Sophocles' "Oedipus Rex"), one of the masterpieces of the 20th century opera. Many of his works were premiered, including M. Ravel's "Violin Sonata" (1923-1927).
