In the Buddhist idea of reincarnation, the six worlds to which sentient beings should go after death according to their karma. They are the hell realm, the hungry ghost realm, the animal realm, the asura realm, the human realm, and the heaven realm, and are also called the six realms. The two realms of humans and heaven are considered good realms, and the other four are considered evil realms. In Buddhist scriptures, it is common to refer to five realms without mentioning asura (asura), but in Japan the term "six realms of reincarnation" has become established. The six Kannon statues and the six Jizo statues symbolize the idea that Kannon Bodhisattva and Jizo Bodhisattva appear in each of the six realms to save lost sentient beings. In addition, the six coins placed in the coffin when burying the dead as a means of salvation in the underworld are called Rokudo Sen.
