A 122km highway that runs from Imaichi in Nikko City in northwest Tochigi Prefecture to Aizu-Wakamatsu City in western Fukushima Prefecture, passing through Ikari, Sanno Pass (906m), and Tajima. Also known as the Nikko Highway. During the Edo period, it connected Aizu and Edo. There were 13 post stations along the way, and people and horses were provided. Most of the road is National Route 121, and it is also a tourist road to Kinugawa Onsen, Kawaji Onsen, and Isori Dam. Sanno Pass is difficult to pass in winter due to heavy snowfall. 栃木県北西部,日光市今市から五十里 (いかり) ,山王峠 (906m) ,田島経由で福島県西部,会津若松市にいたる約 122kmの街道。別称日光街道。江戸時代に会津と江戸を結んだ。途中 13の宿場が置かれ,人馬も用意された。ほとんどが国道 121号線にあたり,鬼怒川温泉,川治温泉,五十里ダムへの観光道路でもある。山王峠は冬季積雪が多く通行困難。
