Croly, Herbert David
Born: January 23, 1869 in New York
[Died] May 17, 1930. New York. American author, founder and editor of The New Republic. After graduating from Harvard University, he worked as an editor and contributor to an architecture magazine, and in 1914 founded The New Republic, attacking American complacency. His major work, The Promise of American Life (1909), influenced T. Roosevelt and T. W. Wilson. In his later years, his interest shifted to philosophy and religious issues.
