A major British commercial bank with its headquarters in London. Founded in Birmingham in 1765 as a partnership bank called Taylor & Lloyd, it became a joint stock company in 1865, changing its name to Lloyds Banking Co. Ltd. In 1884 it acquired the London banks Barnetts Hoars & Co. and Bosanquets Salt and Co., expanding into London and changing its name to Lloyds Barnetts & Bosanquets Bank Ltd.
