Joachim Lelewel

Polish historian and political thinker. Also known as Lelewer. Professor of history at the University of Wolno from 1815 to 1824. Expelled from the university for his ties to nationalistic student organizations. Moved to Warsaw and participated in the November Uprising (1830-31). Became a member of the nationalist government and was appointed chairman of the Towarzystwo Patriotyczne (Patriotic Society). As the leader of the moderate faction, he had a major influence on the direction of the uprising. After the uprising was defeated, he went into exile in Paris. Organized the Polish National Committee and People's Revenge.

ポーランドの歴史家，政治思想家。レレウェルとも呼ぶ。1815‐24年ビルノ大学歴史学教授。民族主義的な学生組織と関係したとの理由で大学を追われる。ワルシャワに移り，十一月蜂起(1830‐31)に参加。国民政府の一員となり，〈愛国協会Towarzystwo Patriotyczne〉会長に就任。穏健派の頭目として蜂起の方針に大きな影響を及ぼす。蜂起敗北後パリに亡命。〈ポーランド国民委員会〉〈人民の復讐〉を組織。
