An inland county in Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Population: 97,020 (1995). Located in the broad Yeoju Basin formed by the Namhan River that runs through the center of the county, it is a representative rice-growing region of Gyeonggi Province. The central town of Yeoju developed as a hub for water transport using the Han River to transport rice to Seoul, and food and textile industries also began to develop there. The area is home to the remains of the Joseon Dynasty's fourth king, Joseon Dynasty leader Joseon, who is known for creating the Hangeul alphabet. Sejong The city is home to the tomb of Emperor Seiso, Yeongneung Tombs and Silleuksa Temple, and attracts tourists from the capital, Seoul. 韓国,京畿道内陸の郡。人口9万7020(1995)。郡中央を貫流する南漢江が形成した広い驪州盆地に位置し,京畿道の代表的な稲作地帯である。中心地の驪州邑は漢江を利用して米をソウルへ運搬する水運の拠点として商業を軸に発達したが,食品,繊維工業も立地するようになった。周辺にはハングルの制定者として知られる李朝第4代世宗(せいそう)の墓,英陵や神勒寺があり,首都ソウルからの観光客を集めている。【谷浦 孝雄】
