This condition is characterized by transient infiltrative shadows in the lungs on chest X-rays, increased eosinophils in peripheral blood, and few or mild clinical symptoms that resolve spontaneously within 2 weeks to 1 month. It is also called Löffler syndrome. It was described in 1932 by Swiss physician W. Löffler, but is now classified as simple pulmonary eosinophilia among PIE syndromes and is thought to develop through an allergic mechanism. It is thought to be caused by type I allergy in the alveoli, and allergens include parasites, fungi, bacteria, drugs, and pollen. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
