Ptah - Ptah (English spelling)

Ptah - Ptah (English spelling)

He was the chief deity of the three gods (Ptah, Sekhmet, and Nefertem) of Memphis (today's capital of the Old Kingdom of Egypt, across the Nile to the east of Saqqara), and is said to have been in charge of creation along with the god Hnum. For this reason, he is considered a god of craftsmanship and modeling, and is similar to the Greek Hephaestus and the Roman Vulcan. Memphis (originally Men-Nefert) was also called Hat-ka-Ptah ("the abode of the spirit of Ptah"), from which the Greek word Aegyptos and the modern name Egypt were born.
