A mountain range that runs north to south parallel to the Mediterranean coast in central Lebanon. It stretches from the Syrian border in the north to the mountain range north of Galilee. It is about 160 km long. It is made of limestone and sandstone. Its highest peak is Qurna al-Souda (3,086 m). It is now in ruins, but in the past it was covered with cedars of Lebanon, famous for being used to make ships. Many persecuted sects have flowed into the area, and even today the northern part is home to Christian Maronites, while the southern part is home to the Islamic heretical Druze. → Related article Lebanon Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
