Greek potter and ceramic painter. Active in Athens at the end of the 6th century BCE. Seventeen works remain that bear his signature, of which he painted five. His careful observation of the human body and bold poses with movement show an originality not seen in previous ceramic paintings. Notable works include a red-figure krater depicting the combat between Hercules and Antaeus (Louvre Museum) and a wine goblet depicting a young knight (National Museum of Ancient Art, Munich).
