…The first irrigation works were completed in 1902, but three years later the Colorado River flooded and the Salton Sea was formed to the north. With the completion of Imperial Dam (1938) and the All-American Waterway (1940), irrigation progressed rapidly, and the area became a fertile agricultural region producing a variety of agricultural products on 2,000 km2 of cultivated land. Many residents are of Mexican descent. …
