Gravel culture

Japanese: 礫耕 - れきこう(英語表記)gravel culture
Gravel culture
This is a method of growing plants by allowing the roots to grow in gravel instead of soil and providing them with the inorganic nutrients they need to grow in a dissolved form in water, which is a form of hydroponics. Gravel cultivation is sometimes used to grow vegetables in places where farming is not possible or in greenhouses where soil-borne diseases have become widespread due to continuous cultivation. Gravel cultivation facilities consist of beds made of concrete with asphalt on the inside or wooden frames covered with plastic sheets to prevent water leakage, and tanks for storing an aqueous solution (nutrient solution) containing inorganic nutrients.
