Worship - Raihai

Japanese: 礼拝 - らいはい
Worship - Raihai
Refers to the act of bowing to an object of faith such as a god or Buddha, as well as the manner and ritual of bowing. (1) In Buddhism, it is used as a translation of the Sanskrit word namas-kāra (transliterated as namas-kāra). It is an expression of respect with the body. There are one, three, and nine bows, and the second volume of the "Da Tang Xiyu Ji" (Records of the Western Regions of the Great Tang Dynasty) lists nine styles of bowing: speaking and asking questions, bowing with head bowed, raising hands in a high bow, kneeling with hands together, kneeling, kneeling on one knee, kneeling on one knee, five-legged pose, and prostrating oneself with hands and knees together. (2) In Christianity, it is called "reihai" and refers to an act of expressing absolute dependence and devotion to God, the creator of all things, and is dedicated only to God and strictly distinguished from veneration for saints.
