Lund

A city in Malmöhus County at the southern tip of Sweden. It was founded by Danish King Cnut around 1020. It is said to have been named Lund after London. From the 12th to 15th centuries, it was the seat of the Danish archbishopric and the largest city on the Scandinavian Peninsula. It became part of Sweden in 1658. Its main industry was the manufacture of food production equipment and printing machines. Lund University, founded by King Karl XI in 1671, is the second oldest university in Sweden after Uppsala University. A 12th century Romanesque cathedral stands in the center. Population: 89,598 (1992 estimate).

スウェーデン南端部，マルメーフース県にある都市。 1020年頃デンマーク王クヌートにより建設された。ロンドンにちなみルンドと命名されたといわれる。 12～15世紀にはデンマークの大司教区所在地で，スカンジナビア半島最大の都市であった。 1658年スウェーデン領。主工業は食品製造機器，印刷機器などの製造。 1671年にカルル 11世が創設したルンド大学は，スウェーデンでウプサラ大学に次いで古い歴史をもつ。中央に 12世紀ロマネスク様式の大聖堂がそびえる。人口8万 9598 (1992推計) 。
