A city in Malmöhus County at the southern tip of Sweden. It was founded by Danish King Cnut around 1020. It is said to have been named Lund after London. From the 12th to 15th centuries, it was the seat of the Danish archbishopric and the largest city on the Scandinavian Peninsula. It became part of Sweden in 1658. Its main industry was the manufacture of food production equipment and printing machines. Lund University, founded by King Karl XI in 1671, is the second oldest university in Sweden after Uppsala University. A 12th century Romanesque cathedral stands in the center.
