Cancer insurance - cancer insurance

This type of insurance pays benefits during treatment and hospitalization, and a death benefit in the event of death, only if cancer is the direct cause. Because coverage is limited to cancer, it has the advantage of requiring lower premiums than traditional illness insurance. In Japan, it was first sold by American Family Life Insurance Company in 1974 (Showa 49). As this insurance from a foreign insurance company proved to be a surprise hit, Japanese life insurance companies began selling special clauses for hospitalization for adult diseases (lifestyle-related diseases), including cancer, in 1976.

癌を直接の原因とする場合に限り、治療、入院時には給付金が、死亡時には死亡保険金が支払われる保険。対象を癌に限定しているため、従来の疾病保険よりも保険料負担が少なくてすむという特徴がある。わが国では1974年（昭和49）にアメリカン・ファミリー生命保険会社によって最初に発売された。外資系の保険会社のこの保険が予想外の売行きとなったこともあって、わが国の生命保険会社も76年から癌を含めた成人病（生活習慣病）入院特約を売り出した。
