André Le Nostre

French landscape gardener during the reign of Louis XIV. Also spelled Le Nôtre. The Le Nôtre family had been gardeners to the royal household for generations, and André designed landscapes from a broad perspective, from the viewpoint of comprehensive art, including painting and architecture. He is particularly known for creating his own geometric gardens, influenced by the perspective theories of J.F. Niceron and G. Desargues. The château of Vaux-le-Vicomte (1656-61), considered the first Baroque building in France, features a garden by Le Nôtre along with other buildings designed by Le Beau.

ルイ14世時代のフランスの造園家。Le Nôtreとも書く。ル･ノートル家は代々王室の庭師で，アンドレは絵画から建築まで含めた広い観点に立った総合芸術の立場から造園を行った。とりわけニスロンJ.F.NiceronやデザルグG.Desarguesの透視図法理論に影響され，独自の幾何学的庭園を考え出した点で名高い。フランスにおける最初のバロック建築とみなされるボー･ル･ビコントVaux‐le‐Vicomteの城館(1656‐61)は，ル･ボーによる建物とともに，ル･ノートルの庭園が配せられている。
