Renouvier, Charles Bernard

Japanese: ルヌービエ(英語表記)Renouvier, Charles Bernard
Renouvier, Charles Bernard
Born: January 1, 1815, Montpellier
[Died] September 1, 1903. Prado, a French philosopher. He studied mathematics at the École Polytechnique from 1834 to 1836, and was influenced by A. Cournot and A. Comte. He was initially politically active from a socialist perspective, but after Napoleon III's coup at the end of 1851, he devoted himself to philosophical writing. In 1967, he founded the monthly journal L'Année philosophique. In 1900, he became a member of the Academie des Morals and Political Sciences. He advocated the revival of Kant's critical spirit, and also added positivist elements to thoroughly implement criticism, so he is also known as "neo-criticalism" (→ critical philosophy). He was a thoroughgoing individualist, but considered conflict between people and groups to be evil, and believed that if individual freedom was fully expressed through education, total peace would come. His major works include Essai de critique générale (4 volumes, 1854-64), La nouvelle monadologie (99), and Le personnalisme (1902).
