...In contrast, the kannabe, a simplified version of the choshi, was a vessel for directly heating sake placed over a fire. In Kyushu, shochu is often drunk warm, and in Kagoshima and Okinawa there is a clay pot-shaped vessel called choka, while in the Kuma region of Kumamoto Prefecture there is a flat fresco-shaped vessel called gara with a long spout, both of which are used over a direct fire. To carry sake or water at outdoor parties, bamboo or cylindrical vessels were used, and these were called sasae (small tube, bamboo tube) or suizutsu (a drinking tube)....
