Lure fishing - Lure fishing (English spelling)

The word "lure" is used to mean to lure or attract, but in fishing it means artificial bait, and lure fishing is the act of catching fish with it. The target fish are mainly freshwater and saltwater fish that have the habit of preying on small fish, but other fish can also be caught by choosing the right type of lure and how to use it.

There are many types of lures. They can generally be classified according to their appearance. They are the "spoon," which can be said to be the prototype of lures, the "spinner," which evolved from the "spoon," the "plug," which is shaped like a small fish or animal, the "jig," which has a hook attached to a weight, the "soft plastic lure," which is made of plastic, and the "combination lure," which is a combination of two or three types of lures. Lures also have various unique movements depending on the action of the angler's rod and reel. For this reason, they can be classified according to their athletic ability, swimming depth range, and the purpose of use, such as the conditions of the fishing spot and the type and size of the target fish. Looking at lures from such a multifaceted perspective, and anglers who can fully bring out the individuality of the lure can discover a lure that catches a lot of fish, that is, a hit lure.

The action and length of the rod are selected depending on the size of the target fish and the weight of the lure. There are usually six action levels, from ultra-light action to heavy action. Just as there are spin casting reels, bait casting reels, and spinning reels, there are also different types of rods. If you do not maintain this total balance, you will not be able to enjoy lure fishing as a sport or game fishing.

As explained before, the trick to fishing is to give the lure an "attractive movement" that fish will find attractive. This movement can be achieved by a variety of methods, including the speed at which you reel the line, the way the action of the rod tip is transmitted from the line to the lure, and the timing of how you let the lure sink. For those who have fished with live bait, lures may seem unreliable, but if you use lures with that mindset, you will never get good results. To put it bluntly, the fish will sense this and not try to chase the lure.

ルアーとは、誘惑するという意味やおびき寄せるというときに使うが、釣りでは擬似餌(え)のことで、これで魚を釣るのがルアーフィッシング。対象魚は淡水、海水魚のうち、小魚などを捕食する習性をもつものを主体に、その他の魚でもルアーの種類の選択、使い方などによって釣ることができる。

　ルアーの種類は多い。一般的には外観から形態の違いにより分類できる。それは、ルアーの原型ともいえる「スプーン」、これが発達進化した「スピナー」、小魚や小動物に近い形をした「プラグ」、オモリに鉤(はり)がついた形の「ジグ」、プラスチックを素材にした「ソフト・プラスチック・ルアー」、ルアーを2種または3種を組み合わせた「コンビネーション・ルアー」となる。またルアーは、釣り人の竿(さお)とリールのアクションによって、さまざまな個性的な動きをする。このため運動能力による分類、泳層範囲による分類から、釣り場の条件や対象魚の種類・大小で使用目的を分類することもある。こうした多角的な視点からルアーをみて、そのルアーの個性を釣り人が十二分に引き出すことによってよく釣れる擬似餌、つまりヒット・ルアーの発見にもつながる。

　竿は対象魚の大小、ルアーの重さなどによって調子、長さを使い分ける。調子はウルトラ・ライト・アクションから、ヘビー・アクションまで普通六段階ある。また、スピン・キャスティング・リール、ベイト・キャスティング・リール、スピニング・リールを使い分けるように、竿の種類も分けられている。こうしたトータル・バランスを守らないと、スポーツ・フィッシング、ゲーム・フィッシングとしてのルアーフィッシングを楽しむことはできない。

　釣り方のこつは、前にも説明したように、ルアーにいかに魚にとって「魅惑的な動き」を与えてやるかである。リールを巻くスピード、竿先のアクションを道糸からルアーに伝える変化、沈め方のタイミングなど、いろいろな方法によって、その動きが生まれる。生きた餌(えさ)を使って釣ってきた人たちにとって、ルアーは実に心もとない気もするだろうが、そうした気持ちでルアーを使うと、けっしていい釣りはできない。極端なことをいえば、魚はそんな気持ちを察して、ルアーを追おうとはしないからである。
