Japanese: 鱗木 - りんぼく

Also known as Lepidodendron. A huge fern that flourished from the Carboniferous to Permian periods. It belongs to the Club moss family and is one of the plants that formed the source of coal at that time. It is 30m tall and the trunk is over 1m in diameter at the base. Many branches branch out from the top of the tree. Large sporangia spikes are attached to the ends of the branches. The leaves are slender and 10-50cm long. As it grows, the leaves fall off and the leaf scars are arranged in a fish-scale pattern, hence the name. In Japan, the closely related Lepidodendropsis and Leptofloem have been excavated from the Kitakami Highlands and Shikoku.

レピドデンドロンとも。石炭紀〜ペルム紀に栄えた巨大なシダ植物。ヒカゲノカズラ類に属し，当時形成された石炭の根源植物の一つ。高さ30m，幹の太さは根元で直径1m以上。木の頂部に多くの枝が分岐。枝の先に大きな胞子嚢の穂がついていた。葉は細長く，長さ10〜50cm。生長につれ葉が脱落し，葉痕(ようこん)が魚鱗状に並ぶのでこの名がある。日本では北上高地や四国から近縁のレピドデンドロプシス，レプトフローエムが出土。
