〘noun〙① One of the ritsuryo government offices. Belonging to the Ministry of Central Affairs (Nakatsukasasho) , it was responsible for storing books and Buddhist implements in the Imperial Court, copying and binding books, producing paper, brushes, ink, etc. and distributing them to various offices, and also for compiling national history. It consisted of heads, assistants, Daishonoyu, Daishozoku, copyists, binders, papermakers, brushmakers, and inkmakers. Fumi no tsukasa (Office of Writing). Fun no tsukasa (Office of Pilgrimage). [Ryo Gikai (718)]② A bureau established in August 1884 ( Meiji 17 ) within the Imperial Household Ministry to compile the genealogy of the Imperial family and all records of the Imperial household, and to be in charge of preserving books, antiques, calligraphy, and paintings both at home and abroad, as well as matters related to art. Later, the department's duties and structure changed, but it was mainly responsible for the preparation and storage of the Imperial Lineage Record, the compilation of the Emperor and Imperial Family Records, the compilation and storage of official documents, the storage of Imperial Rescripts and other important documents, and the storage and disbursement of books. In 1949 , it merged with the Shoryo Bureau to become the Archives and Mausolea Department. 〘名〙① 令制官司の一つ。中務省(なかつかさしょう)に属して、宮中の書籍・仏具の保管、図書の書写・製本を行ない、紙・筆・墨などを製造して諸司に給付し、また、国史の修撰をつかさどった役所。頭、助、大少允、大少属や写書手、装潢手、造紙手、造筆手、造墨手などから構成される。ふみのつかさ。ふんのつかさ。〔令義解(718)〕② 明治一七年(一八八四)八月、皇室の系譜ならびに帝室一切の記録を編修し、内外の書籍・古器物・書画の保存および美術に関すること等をつかさどるため、宮内省に設けられた一部局。のち、職掌、機構ともに変遷があったが、主として皇統譜の調製・保管、天皇・皇族実録の編修、公文書の編纂・保管、詔勅その他重要文書の保管、図書の保管・出納等をつかさどり、昭和二四年(一九四九)諸陵寮と合併し書陵部となる。としょりょう。〔明治職官沿革表(1886‐94)〕
